Camping - Frequently Asked Questions

Camping:

Q: Can I freeze my ice packs on site?

A: Ice packs can be frozen in reception. We charge 20p per pack each time you freeze, and we have frozen blocks that can be borrowed whilst yours are freezing down.

Q: How far apart should tents be?

A: A minimum of 3 meters.

Q: What time can I check in from?

A: Check in time is normally from 2pm.

Q: Will I be able to leave later than 12 noon on the day of departure?

A: Please check at reception, as it will depend on what arrivals we have that day.

Q: Do you have electric hook up available for tents?

A: We have limited availability for electric hook up on Ghyllside and Moorhow. Booking is essential for these areas.

Q: What do I need for electric hook up for tents?

A: You need an outdoor leisure lead. These are available from any good outdoor supplier (Argos have them too). An ordinary extension lead will not work!

Q: Are dogs allowed on the park?

A: We welcome well behaved dogs, but they must be kept on leads.

Q: How good is the television reception on the park?

A: Due to the position of the park, with hills around us, TV reception can be variable, especially when it is windy. We have gone digital.

Q: Are there sockets available for my hair straighteners?

A: There are sockets in the shower blocks.

Q: Do I need coins for the showers?

A: The showers are free of charge, and are open all the time.

Q: What is in the private bathrooms?

A: There is a full size bath with shower attachment, (shower attachment is for rinsing only, it is not a stand-up shower) sink, toilet, hairdryer, drying rack and radiator. They are exclusively for the use of the hirer, and personal belongings can be left safely, as only the hirer has a key. They cost £14 per night.

Q: What about the family bathroom that can be booked for an hour?

A: This has all the same facilities as the private bathrooms, and also has a baby bath. This is available for 45 minutes per booking, for a £10 returnable deposit. We just ask that you clean it after use, leaving it in the same condition as you would wish to find it.

Q: Are camp fires allowed?

A: No open fires are permitted.

Q: Are BBQs allowed?

A: BBQs are fine, but must be raised off the grass. Stands are available in reception if required for a £5 returnable deposit).

Q: Can I park my car next to the tent?

A: We would ask you to leave it on the track rather than on the grass especially if the ground is wet. If you are bringing more than 1 car, the second one should be parked on the car park.

Q: Can we get a refund if we leave early if the weather is bad?

A: We cannot control the weather, so no refunds are given for early departures.

General:

Q: What is the latest arrival time for checking in?

A: We would ideally like arrivals before 9pm, but appreciate that traffic can be bad, especially at weekends. However, there is no access after 11pm, as the gates are locked then to try to ensure a peaceful night for all.

Q: What if we go out and are back later than 11pm?

A: The vehicle will have to be parked outside the gates (ask at reception, and we will show you where).

Q: What is your policy on noise?

A: We ask for quiet between 11pm and 7.30am. Please respect other campers who may be trying to sleep. We are a family site and will not tolerate anti-social behavior or language. Anyone causing a disturbance will be asked to leave, and no refunds will be given.

Q: Can I walk to the lake from Park Cliffe?

A: There is no lake access nearby, as the land is privately owned. We do not recommend that you walk along the A592 as it is very busy, and there is no pavement for much of it. We do have a walk (available in reception) that takes you to Bowness on footpaths, which takes 2 hours.

Q: How much does a taxi to Bowness cost?

A: It costs around £12 each way.

Q: Is there a bus service nearby?

A: The bus (618 Ambleside to Barrow service) runs close to the site, but there are only about 6 per day.

Q: Where can I launch a boat or canoe?

A: Fell Foot Park (national trust), 2.5 miles away, or Ferry Nab (2.5 miles).

Q: What mobile phone networks work on the park?

A: Vodafone is the only reliable network.

Q: Do you have Wi-Fi?

A: We have free Wi-Fi in the bar and restaurant (please note only available when the bar and restaurant is open, closed midweek in low season).

Q: How much does the laundry cost?

A: It is 2 x£1 coins for a wash, and 50p for the drier.
