With the weather getting warmer, the Lake District offers many activities for water sports enthusiasts!

Are you ready for Summer? With kids being off in the summer, the warm months are a prime time for staycations! To help you have an unforgettable time, we have come up with a list of the best water sports in the Lake District.

Watersports on Lake Windermere

Lake Windermere is very popular for watersports in the warm months of the year. There’s nothing more refreshing than spending some time in the water during a heatwave!

Get on the water with Stoked Watersports base at Fell Foot on the southern tip of Lake Windermere, set within the National Trust’s Fell Foot park just a 10 min drive from Park Cliffe towards Newby Bridge- a very special place which never fails to impress. It is quite simply one of the best place to experience watersports hires on Lake Windermere.

They run regular kayak, paddleboard and row boat hourly hire sessions throughout the day perfect for beginners and for more experienced paddlers we have our SUP pick up and go service giving you the freedom to explore Lake Windermere at your own pace.

Another favourite activity provider is Windermere Outdoor Adventure Centre, which is only 10 minutes away from Park Cliffe towards Bowness on Windermere. They have many activities available to book, including courses in windsurfing and sailing! If you are simply looking to hop on a kayak or canoe or test your balance on a paddle board, this is also an option.

Low Wood Bay Watersports Centre is another activity provider, and it is now taking booking for Spring and Summer. In addition to sailing, kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding, you can hire a boat or enjoy wakesurfing, kneeboarding or waterskiing!

Coniston Water is another popular lake for water sports, with plenty of options to suit your needs during your visit to the Lake District this Summer.

Joint Adventures organises high quality outdoor activities: you can pick from kayaking, paddle boarding, raft building  or even Family Outdoor Adventure days! Family adventures are suitable for all ages, and each group is assigned to an experienced instructor that will be with you throughout the session, from 9.30am to 4pm. Canyoning and rafting are some of the best Water Sports in the Lake District! Both are thrilling sports and an amazing way to explore canyons, waterfalls and rivers like never before, while stepping out of your comfort zone and reconnecting with nature.

Crags Adventures is a family-run outdoor activity provider that focuses on canyoning for small groups. You can pick the most suitable adventure for you:

  • Coppermines Canyon – suitable for everyone above 12 years old and 2 to 3 hours long, this package involves sliding, jumping down waterfalls and descending streams.
  • Devil’s Canyon – suitable for adults only (18 years old and above) and 5 to 6 hours long, this package offers canyoning with abseiling, ziplining and sliding down waterfalls.
