Park Cliffe donates £400 to help protect dragonflies and rare butterflies.
We’re huge advocates of sustainability at Park Cliffe and do everything we can to ensure the environment surrounding our caravan and camping park can thrive and flourish. Over the years we’ve taken part in a number of nationwide campaigns and conservation efforts as well as launching our own environmental initiatives.
In 2021 we scooped four prizes at the Cumbria in Bloom Awards, receiving praise for planting high nectar-bearing flowers which attract pollinators. Around 400 native trees and hedgerows have been planted in the grounds of the park and we hold a David Bellamy Conservation award for protecting indigenous flora and fauna.
As part of our commitment to protecting nature within the Lake District National Park, we try to involve visitors in our environmental efforts and encourage a greater interest in the great outdoors. One of the ways we achieve this is by inviting guests to make a voluntary contribution to local environmental good causes when they book their holidays online.
We’ve been doing this for some time now and have been overwhelmed by the positive response. Almost every guest makes a donation, which we think underlines the affection they have for the area and their wish to be involved in maintaining its upkeep.
We usually add to our customers’ donations by running a series of fundraising events each year, such as treasure hunts, raffles and quizzes. With social distancing requirements and other limitations that simply wasn’t possible in 2021, so the total raised last year was just a little short of £400.00. We are hoping that the easing of restrictions this year will allow our usual events to go ahead, and with a record number of advance bookings, we’re hoping for a charity windfall!
The money has been donated to the Cumbria Wildlife Trust and will be used to support Barkbooth Lot Nature Reserve in nearby Crosthwaite. The much-visited nature reserve will soon be carpeted with bluebells and primroses, providing a rich wildlife habitat which includes the rare high brown fritillary butterfly.
We’re delighted that our guest’s generosity will help protect the local habitats of dragonflies and rare butterflies. This fantastic achievement, along with previous donations brings the grand total to almost £3,000 in three years of fundraising for the trust.
We hope to build on this further in the coming season to help bolster the charities vital conservation and maintenance work. We have plenty planned, including taking part in the national Queen’s Green Canopy tree-planting initiative to help celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee year in 2022.
Park Cliffe is one of the best holiday parks in the Lake District with stunning views over Windermere and the surrounding fells. We have a variety of accommodation, including luxury holiday homes to rent and buy, glamping and cottage accommodation and pitches for touring caravans, motorhomes and tents.
