Yes, cold water swimming is a popular activity on Coniston Water. The sheltered northern end is particularly popular, due to the absence of boat traffic. There is easy access around much of the lake, with gently shelving water. One of the most popular places to get in as Monk Coniston Car Park (LA21 8AA). The western side is deeper than the east, which is more popular with families.
Swimmers are reminded to dress appropriately for the weather. Always wear a brightly coloured swim hat and tow float.
