Camping Near Lake Windermere

Come camping in the Lake District at Park Cliffe, only 4 miles from Bowness on Windermere.  We have two camping areas for tents.

The first, Ghyllside, allows you to reserve your pitch, with electrical hook-up if you so desire. This area is across a minor lane from the main park. These pitches are allocated by size, therefore we need to know the size of your tent in metres (including any porch), when making a booking.  More suitable for larger tents.

The second area, Fellside, offers magnificent views down the lake towards the Langdale Pikes and across to Coniston Old Man from its undulating slopes. On Fell Side you choose your own area to camp, book online here.

Please note hard ground awning/tent pegs are required. Where electric hook-up is provided customers must provide their own leads.

And if you want the height of luxury whilst you are camping, why not hire one of our private bathrooms for your own personal use. These cost just £14.00 per night.

Our reception is open from 8.30am to 6pm (9pm high season).  If you require assistance outside of these times contact the Duty Warden.  Please check the notice on the reception door as where to locate them.

For your safety and security Park gates are locked at 11pm and open at 7.30am.  To ensure a peaceful night for all we would be grateful for your cooperation with our ‘no noise’ rule between these times.

Full details of Park Rules and Booking Terms and Conditions are available from our website or on request. All bookings are made subject to both Park Rules and Booking Terms and Conditions .

A surcharge of £8.00 per night applies to 8 man tents.

The Fellside camping area is open from 1st March until 10th November 2019.

The Ghyllside camping area is open from Easter to the end of August. Minimum booking requirements apply at peak periods.

Check in after 2pm, departure by 12noon.

Will I be able to leave later than 12 noon on the day of departure?

Please check at reception, as it will depend on what arrivals we have that day.

Can I freeze my ice packs on site?

Ice packs can be frozen in reception, and we have frozen blocks that can be borrowed whilst yours are freezing down. No charge for this service.

How far apart should tents be?

A minimum of 3 meters.

What time can I check in from?

Check in time is normally from 2pm.

Do you have electric hook up available for tents?

We have limited availability for electric hook up on Ghyllside and Moorhow. Booking is essential for these areas.

What do I need for electric hook up for tents?

You need an outdoor leisure lead. These are available from any good outdoor supplier (Argos have them too). An ordinary extension lead will not work!

Are dogs allowed on the park?

We welcome well behaved dogs, but they must be kept on leads and although we don’t allow dogs in the bar/restaurant area, we do have a lovely outdoor terrace area where your canine friends are more than welcome.

How good is the television reception on the park?

Due to the position of the park, with hills around us, TV reception can be variable, especially when it is windy. We have gone digital.

Are there sockets available for my hair straighteners/hairdryers?

There are sockets in the shower blocks. Hairdryers are available to borrow (£10 deposit required) from Reception. We also have hairdryers in the ladies shower blocks.

What about the family bathroom that can be booked for an hour?

This has all the same facilities as the private bathrooms, and also has a baby bath. This is available for 45 minutes per booking, for a £10 returnable deposit. We just ask that you clean it after use, leaving it in the same condition as you would wish to find it.

Are camp fires allowed?

No open fires are permitted.

Are BBQs allowed?

BBQs are fine, but must be raised off the grass. Stands are available in reception if required for a £5 returnable deposit.

Can we get a refund if we leave early if the weather is bad?

We cannot control the weather, so no refunds are given for early departures.

Do I need coins for the showers?

The showers are free of charge, and are open all the time.

What is in the private bathrooms?

There is a full size bath with shower attachment, (shower attachment is for rinsing only, it is not a stand-up shower) sink, toilet, hairdryer, drying rack and radiator. They are exclusively for the use of the hirer, and personal belongings can be left safely, as only the hirer has a key. They cost £14 per night.

Can I park my car next to the tent?

We would ask you to leave it on the track rather than on the grass especially if the ground is wet. If you are bringing more than 1 car, the second one should be parked on the car park. Commercial vehicles must be parked in the car park.
