Lake Windermere Camping

Camping in the Lake District at Park Cliffe - enjoy stunning views of Lake Windermere

Book a stay with us and enjoy unrivalled views of Lake Windermere from your own tent camping pitch. We are the only park to provide camping with tents on the eastern side of Lake Windermere. Meaning on a fine evening you can enjoy the full splendor of a Lake District sun set as it sinks below the fells.

We have two campsite areas for tents:

Ghyllside campsite

Our Ghyllside camping area, allows you to reserve your pitch, with electrical hook-up (6amps). This area is across a minor lane from the main park. These pitches are allocated by size, therefore we need to know the size of your tent in metres (including any porch), when making a booking.

Please note gazebos, event shelters and similar structures are not permitted on Ghyllside.

Ghyllside camping area is more suitable for larger tents. Pitches here have a 6amp electric supply which is suitable for lighting, recharging devices and providing supplies to small appliances such as a travel kettle (750w).  This is not suitable for providing a heating supply in a tent. If you prefer more comfort why not try one of our camping pods!

Fellside campsite

The second area, Fellside, offers magnificent views down Lake Windermere towards the Langdale Pikes and across to Coniston Old Man from its undulating slopes. On Fellside you can choose your own area to camp. Book online here.

Private bathrooms

If you want the height of luxury whilst you are camping, why not hire one of our private bathrooms for your own personal use? These cost just £14.00 per night.

Reminders for when you’re on the park

  • For your safety and security and to minimise noise the Park gates are locked at 11pm and open at 7.30am. If you are out late, vehicles can be parked just outside the main gate. Then please tip-toe back to your pitches, remembering as you walk past tents and pods to have consideration for fellow visitors who may be asleep.
  • We cater primarily for families, couples and singles, and have a ‘all quiet after 11pm’ rule so that everyone can enjoy a quiet night’s sleep.  Remember voices can carry (especially when on a mobile phone).
  • There’s no loud music allowed at any time – we are not a music festival and for some guest’s loud music can spoil their peace and relaxation.
  • Our reception is open from 8.30am  to 9pm (6pm low season). If you require assistance outside of these times contact the Duty Warden. Please check the notice on the reception door as where to locate them. Please take a look at our Park Rules and Booking Terms and Conditions. All bookings are made subject to both Park Rules and Booking Terms and Conditions.

Can I freeze my ice packs on site?

Ice packs can be frozen in reception, and we have frozen blocks that can be borrowed whilst yours are freezing down. No charge for this service.

How far apart should tents be?

A minimum of 3 meters.

What time can I check in from?

Check in time is normally from 2pm.

Do you have electric hook up available for tents?

We have a 6amp electric hook up on Ghyllside. Booking is essential for these areas. A 6amp electric supply is suitable for lighting, recharging devices and providing supplies to small appliances such as a travel kettle (750w).

What do I need for electric hook up for tents?

You need an outdoor leisure lead. These are available from any good outdoor supplier (Argos have them too). An ordinary extension lead will not work!

Are dogs allowed on the park?

Yes, we are a dog friendly holiday park and welcome all well behaved dogs. They must be kept on leads and although we don’t allow dogs in the bar/restaurant area, we do have a lovely outdoor terrace area where your canine friends are more than welcome.

How good is the television reception on the park?

Due to the position of the park, with hills around us, TV reception can be variable, especially when it is windy. We have gone digital.

Are there sockets available for my hair straighteners/hairdryers?

There are sockets in the shower blocks. Hairdryers are available to borrow (£10 deposit required) from Reception. We also have hairdryers in the ladies shower blocks.

What about the family bathroom that can be booked for an hour?

This has all the same facilities as the private bathrooms, and also has a baby bath. This is available for 45 minutes per booking, for a £10 returnable deposit. We just ask that you clean it after use, leaving it in the same condition as you would wish to find it.

Are camp fires allowed?

Sorry but no open fires are permitted.

Are BBQs allowed?

Yes BBQs are fine, but must be raised off the grass. Stands are available in reception if required for a £5 returnable deposit.

Can we get a refund if we leave early if the weather is bad?

We cannot control the weather, so no refunds are given for early departures.

Do I need coins for the showers?

No, the showers are free of charge and are open all the time.

What is in the private bathrooms?

Included in the private bathrooms there is:

  • a full size bath with shower attachment, (shower attachment is for rinsing only, it is not a stand-up shower).
  • sink
  • toilet
  • hairdryer
  • drying rack
  • radiator

They are exclusively for the use of the hirer, and personal belongings can be left safely, as only the hirer has a key. They cost £14 per night.

Can I park my car next to the tent?

We would ask you to leave it on the track rather than on the grass especially if the ground is wet. If you are bringing more than one car, your second car should be parked on the car park. Commercial vehicles must be parked in the car park.
