Rescue Squad Salutes Cumbria Holiday Park’s Fundraisers

Park Cliffe holiday park in Windermere has provided a £2,000 boost to the fundraising efforts of a voluntary emergency team specialising in quicksand, snow and flood rescues.

Covering Cumbria and parts of Lancashire, Bay Search and Rescue was Park Cliffe’s adopted good cause for its fundraising efforts in 2015.

And this November, the rescue team’s station officer Gary Parsons visited the park to receive the donation from the family business’s co-owner Susan Dickson.

Initiatives to raise money were spread throughout the year at the multi-award winning park, which is located on the shores of Windermere with picturesque lake and mountain views.

Supported by staff plus other local businesses and holiday guests, the activities included raffles, celebration nights, barbecues, a duck race, and a spectacular fireworks display this month.

Organising most of the events were the park’s long-standing managers Tim and Arlene Lovatt, assisted by Susan Dickson and her husband Derek.

According to Susan, Bay Search and Rescue proved an extremely popular choice both with camping and caravan guests, and the owners of caravan holiday homes at Park Cliffe:

“Many people come here because they enjoy outdoor activities in the surrounding area, and are well aware that many pursuits do carry an element of risk,” said Susan.

“It’s reassuring to know that the Bay team will provide a rapid response facility if anybody, including our guests, does get into trouble whilst out and about.

“They work alongside other emergency services in the area such as mountain rescue and the air ambulance – and also have their own all-terrain rescue vehicles.

“The money we have raised will help towards the funding of these, and the specialist life-saving training which the team provides,” Susan added.
