Earthy brown-tinted and full of tranquility - Autumn in The Lakes simply must be experienced
Park Cliffe Camping and Caravan Park is the ultimate base for an autumn holiday in the Lake District. Our warm and cosy accommodation, award-winning facilities and stunning views over Lake Windermere afford visitors the chance to escape the city and enjoy some time to relax and unwind.
Off peak travel has many benefits – particularly if you’re looking to holiday on a budget. Here we discuss just some of the reasons we think autumn is one of the best times of year to enjoy a holiday in The Lakes.
During October and November, the National Park is awash with colour as the trees transform from green to a scene of yellows, reds and earthy browns. Beauty spots are free from crowds and there’s ample opportunity for exploring at a slower pace. There are fewer cars on the road, so you can take your time as you navigate the winding roads. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife – we often see deer, rabbits and bird scurrying around the fells at this time of year.
The landscape surrounding the park looks truly spectacular in autumn, especially as the sun sets over Windermere. We highly recommend walking to the top of one of the surrounding hills to photograph the scenery in the glow of the fading light.
After a busy day exploring towns and villages throughout the National Park, enjoy a relaxing evening in the comfort of your self-catering accommodation. With a range of camping pods, static caravans, shepherds huts and touring and camping pitches to choose from, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect accommodation for you.
Our Lake District accommodation is the perfect base to spend a cosy evening watching the stars with a glass of wine in hand. You could even head to one of our excellent food trucks for some hearty winter food and refreshments. With a multitude of things to do and ways to stay, we offer everything you need to have the most memorable autumn holiday in the Lake District.
Whichever way you choose to enjoy your holiday at Park Cliffe, it is always nice to have some home comforts. The facilities on-site include a modern shower block, Wi-Fi, private bathrooms, shop, and bar and restaurant. There are also a range of fantastic children’s facilities and activities to ensure our younger guests are entertained!
October half term is a fantastic time of year to enjoy a Lake District getaway with the kids. There are plenty of family friendly activities and Halloween themed events on offer and attractions tend to be quieter – meaning less queues and more time having fun!
We often have excellent weather in October providing ample opportunity for scenic autumn walks and spending quality family time in the great outdoors. If the weather does make an unwelcome appearance however, there are lots of rainy-day attractions to check out.
We know that many dog owners choose a staycation rather than venturing abroad, which is why were happy for you to bring your well-behaved dog to our award winning-park. We’re widely considered to be one of the best dog friendly caravan and camping parks in the Lake District and have a range of pet friendly accommodation on offer throughout the autumn months.
Dogs are welcome on our camping, touring and motorhome pitches as well as a selection of our wooden glamping pods. We have a number of pet friendly static caravans to hire for short breaks and week-long stays.
The Lake District is one of the most dog friendly regions in the UK – making it the perfect choice for an off-peak break. From the park you can access an abundance of picturesque dog walks and many of the local attractions are dog friendly too. Dogs are welcome at the Lakeland Motor Museum, Brockhole-On-Windermere, and Lowther Castle as well as host of pubs and restaurants in the National Park.
Travelling with a dog throughout Cumbria is easy – most of the buses, boats and trains all allow well behaved dogs on board

The Lake District offers some of the best fishing and walking locations in the UK. Although these pastimes are popular all year round, the quiet of Autumn makes walking and fishing that bit more special.
Spend peaceful days fishing on Windermere, Coniston, Ullswater and Bassenthwaite, Ethswaite, or enjoy scenic walks on the pathways circumnavigating the lakes. At this time of year, you’ll enjoy clear sky’s and crisp mornings – the perfect conditions to soak up the colourful autumn reflections on the water.
If you’re in the mood for something a bit more strenuous, a walk up Scafell Pike, Coniston Old Man and Helvellyn will get the heart pumping. These routes are best suited to experienced hikers and offer magnificent views of the surrounding fells as you make your ascent.
The low season is also a time when some of the best events and festivals in the region take place. Whether you want to sit and relax or get up and active, here are a few of our favourite autumn events to enjoy whilst you stay at Park Cliffe Camping & Caravan Park.
