Autumn Holidays in the Lake District

Earthy brown-tinted and full of tranquility - Autumn in The Lakes simply must be experienced

Park Cliffe Camping and Caravan Park is the ultimate base for an autumn holiday in the Lake District. Our warm and cosy accommodation, award-winning facilities and stunning views over Lake Windermere afford visitors the chance to escape the city and enjoy some time to relax and unwind.

Off peak travel has many benefits – particularly if you’re looking to holiday on a budget. Here we discuss just some of the reasons we think autumn is one of the best times of year to enjoy a holiday in The Lakes.

Haweswater Reservoir Reflection

Stunning scenery

During October and November, the National Park is awash with colour as the trees transform from green to a scene of yellows, reds and earthy browns. Beauty spots are free from crowds and there’s ample opportunity for exploring at a slower pace. There are fewer cars on the road, so you can take your time as you navigate the winding roads. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife – we often see deer, rabbits and bird scurrying around the fells at this time of year.

The landscape surrounding the park looks truly spectacular in autumn, especially as the sun sets over Windermere. We highly recommend walking to the top of one of the surrounding hills to photograph the scenery in the glow of the fading light.

Fishing and Walking

Fishing and Walking Holidays in The Lakes

The Lake District offers some of the best fishing and walking locations in the UK. Although these pastimes are popular all year round, the quiet of Autumn makes walking and fishing that bit more special.

Spend peaceful days fishing on Windermere, Coniston, Ullswater and Bassenthwaite, Ethswaite, or enjoy scenic walks on the pathways circumnavigating the lakes. At this time of year, you’ll enjoy clear sky’s and crisp mornings – the perfect conditions to soak up the colourful autumn reflections on the water.

If you’re in the mood for something a bit more strenuous, a walk up Scafell Pike, Coniston Old Man and Helvellyn will get the heart pumping. These routes are best suited to experienced hikers and offer magnificent views of the surrounding fells as you make your ascent.
