Lake district bus routes

Travelling by bus is one of the best ways to explore the Lake District. Many families visiting our Lake District holiday park choose to leave the car on site and catch a bus into Bowness-on-Windermere from the bus stop, which is only a short walk from the entrance to Park Cliffe. From Bowness you can choose a number of routes, including the popular 599 which goes all the way to Grasmere in the north.

Open top bus

On a warm day the 599 open top bus is a fantastic option that the whole family will enjoy. From the top deck you’ll have an excellent vantage point to experience some of the Lake Districts most spectacular scenery. Sit back in the comfy seats, relax and look out over the beautiful lakes and fell’s as you wind through the Cumbria countryside.

The 599 route takes in the very best of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the elevated position offers plenty of opportunity for taking photos. What’s more, a pre-recorded audio tape plays throughout the journey, explaining the counties rich history and points of interest.

Great for ramblers

The bus is an excellent option if you’re planning on going fell walking during your holiday in the Lake District. Travelling by bus allows you to plan a linear route, without having to double back to collect your car. You’ll be able to walk further and discover more of the incredible landscape for which The Lakes are famed. An added bonus of using the bus to get around, is you can enjoy a pint (or two!) of local ale from one of the country pubs during your day out.

Bus and boat

With one of Stagecoach’s popular Bus and Boat tickets you can combine unlimited bus travel with a single boat trip on Coniston, Derwentwater, Ullswater or Windermere. This is a great way to experience the best of both worlds and see the picturesque scenery from the water and the land. Tickets are available to buy on the day of travel and can be purchased from one of the bus network’s friendly drivers. Discount is available for groups travelling together and most buses offer plenty of room for buggies and bikes along with free WiFi, and USB charging.

Our reception staff will be more than happy to provide information on the different bus routes available in the Lake District. You can also visit Stagecoaches website for timetables and live travel information.
