Cumbria park takes centre stage in tourism award finals

Multi-award winning Park Cliffe in Windermere is in the spotlight again – as a finalist in the prestigious Cumbria Tourism Awards 2018.

Staff and the family owners of the park will now be keeping their fingers crossed until judges announce their verdict at June’s glittering awards ceremony.

The event will take place at Cartmel Racecourse, and will be hosted by Alan “Deadly” Dedicoat – best known as the National Lottery’s infamous “Voice of the Balls”.

Park Cliffe’s owners, Susan and Derek Dickson, will be hoping for a repeat of their winning performance in 2016 when they took the overall title as Cumbria Tourism park of the year.

Dubbed the Oscars of Cumbria’s £2.7 billion tourism industry, this year’s winners will be fast-tracked through to the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence.

Owned by Susan and Derek for just over ten years, Park Cliffe first started welcoming campers to its idyllic location in the mid-1960s.

Since then, it has benefitted from many new features introduced by the couple.

The Cumbria Tourism Awards are now in their sixteenth year, and this year’s competition comes in the wake of 2017’s designation of the Lake District as a World Heritage site.

Susan Dickson said the park’s shortlisting in the 2018 Cumbria Tourism awards is a fantastic tribute to the business’s hard-working staff team:

“A significant feature of these awards is the quality of service and hospitality provided to guests, and our staff must take a large share of the credit for this,” said Susan.

“We knew we were up against some extremely tough competition in these awards from other excellent Cumbria parks, so we were delighted with the news of our shortlisting!

“The honour comes right at the start of the summer season, so I hope it will also throw the spotlight on Cumbria generally as a wonderful place to take a holiday,” added Susan.

The award was the latest in a number of top accolades received recently by Park Cliffe, including a five-star quality award from VisitEngland, and a five-pennant AA Gold Park Award.
