Kicking off the list are Christmas Markets – they’re a classic and are great fun for all the family.

Taste Cumbria Christmas Market

The Taste Cumbria Christmas Market is the perfect day out, if you want to support local small businesses. Browse the fantastic stalls selling Christmas decorations and relax with a warming glass of mulled wine. There will be plenty of tasty food to sample from some of the best artisan producers from across the North-West. Kids can event visit Santa in the grotto!

The market will take place on the 9th and 10th of December 2023 at Market Place, Cockermouth.

Beetham Nurseries Christmas Market Weekend

The Christmas Market Weekend is another unmissable event! Spend a couple of hours browsing the chalets to stock up on gifts, food and drink. Live music performances will take place each day, helping to create a festive atmosphere. Local businesses include Fellside Candle Co, Wildfox Distillery, Zero Pantry and much more!

The event runs from 7th – 10th December 2023 – times vary depending on day.

Beetham Nurseries is on the edge of the Lake District. It’s a short 30-minute drive from Park Cliffe and Bowness-on-Windermere.

Winter Warmer Trains

Hop on a Winter Warmer Train this December for an unmissable family day out. Enjoy the stunning landscape and the beautiful stations, adorned with Christmas decorations! Situated just 1hr away from Bowness-on-Windermere, the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway Station Railway Station is easily reachable from Park Cliffe. Make a day of it and enjoy a scenic walk at either end of the line.

With festive food, alcohol free drinks, and staff dressed with Christmas outfits, enjoy this unforgettable ride. If you’re lucky enough to get a bit of snow, you can even pretend you’re on the Polar Express.

Last but not least, get your little ones excited for the big day by exploring the magical Walby Farm Park. There are 10 interactive activities to enjoy, including:

  • Wander through the Enchanted Forest with 3D glasses
  • Meet Reindeers
  • Take a photo with Santa.
