About Lakeland Motor Museum

Head down memory lane to the Lakeland Motor Museum and feast your eyes on a unique collection of 30,000 exhibits. That includes 140 classic cars and motorbikes, all carefully assembled over 50 years. Nestled in the scenic Leven Valley and open seven days a week, the museum isn’t just about cars. The entire collection is presented in a social context, with a host of rarities to awaken some special motoring memories.

As well as some iconic examples of motor vehicles, the museum includes a fascinating display on the record-breaking Campbell family. Housed in its own unique building, their Campbell Bluebird Exhibition is a tribute to the racing career of Sir Malcolm and Donald Campbell. Highlights include full sized replicas of the 1935 Blue Bird car, 1939 Blue Bird Boat K4 and 1967 jet hydroplane Bluebird K7. It also details the precise timekeeping methods that were used for the record attempts.

Other areas of the museum include a special display on the Isle of Man TT race, a huge collection of bicycles, pedal cars, caravans and automobilia. Plus there are displays about the local history and industry of The Lake District.

The Lakeland Motor Museum is a perfect all-weather attraction and one of the great things to do in the Lake District. The museum is located at the southern tip of Windermere and is minutes from Lakeside Pier where a free shuttle bus connects with Windermere Lake Cruises (combined tickets available). There is a free quiz for children, as well as a riverside café with home-made cakes and snacks.
