About Keswick

About Keswick

Keswick is a charming market town surrounded by the Skiddaw and Blencathra mountains. It is hugely popular amongst hikers and  a fantastic place to stop for a spot of lunch if you’re trekking in the nearby area. Regardless of whether you’re hiking across the mountains, or just visiting the Lake District for a relaxing getaway, we highly recommend spending a day in Keswick whilst staying at Park Cliffe caravan and camping park. Spend the day exploring the traditional streets, before stopping for a drink to watch the world go by.

Things to do in Keswick

There are plenty of things to do and see in Keswick. As a traditional market town, Keswick has a wide offering of local shops and boutiques selling artworks, woollen jumpers, freshly made food, and gifts, as well as a multitude of excellent camping, walking and outdoor clothing shops.

Keswick is also home to some excellent attractions to visit whilst spending a day in the market town. Our top attraction recommendations are Theatre By The Lakes, Keswick Pencil Museum, the optical illusion exhibition ‘Puzzling Place’ and the Keswick Museum and Art Gallery.

If you’d like to truly connect to nature, then consider participating in a course at the Keswick Canoe and Bushwick centre. These highly rated courses are suitable for couples, families, groups – or even individuals wanting to cultivate their bushcraft or watersports skills whilst staying in the Lake District.

Food and drink

Keswick has a vast range of exciting and traditional eateries to enjoy.  There are a fantastic selection of traditional pubs in the Market Square, which can be found in Keswick town centre. One of the favourites amongst locals and holidaymakers is The Dog & Gun, which is best known for being a dog-friendly pub with a fantastic atmosphere. The Round is a burger and cocktail bar which can also be found in Market Square – this fantastic bar celebrates the outdoorsy nature of the Lake District and serves an exceptional range of cocktails, beers, wines and gourmet burgers. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something a little healthier, Kat’s Kitchen is an excellent vegan restaurant which serves a wide variety of snacks and meals – from burgers to traditional roasts, gluten free cakes to smoothies.

Getting to Keswick.

You can drive to Keswick town along the A591 from Park Cliffe. The journey takes roughly 50 minutes depending on traffic. This charming Cumbrian town is well worth a visit during a camping, touring or glamping holiday near Windermere.
