The Lake District is the ultimate destination for a walking holiday in the UK. From Park Cliffe you can explore gentle family friendly walking routes, as well as more difficult trails which are sure to satisfy more experienced hikers. Gummers How is a must when staying at Park Cliffe – as is the walk to Bowness!
Of course you also have easy access to some of the most iconic climbs in the UK, such as Helvellyn, Scafell Pike and Coniston Old Man. These are perfectly suited to physically fit, experienced hikers!
There are many places to go and enjoy the UK’s fastest-growing watersport, SUP! You can’t look past The Lake District’s largest lake, Windermere, where you can take your own board, or hire and book a lesson with many providers like Windermere Canoe Kayak, Lake District Paddleboarding, Stoked Watersports and Brockhole. It is worth noting that the waters are deep here and can get busy in the high season. For those just starting out their SUP journey, Brockholes or Fell Foot Park are ideal, shallow waters where you can gain confidence.
We also recommend that paddleboarders visit Ullswater, Coniston Water and Bassenthwaite Lake. You can hire boards from providers at each of these lakes!

The Lake District is one of the best places for a wildlife watching holiday in the UK. There are some fantastic rare species that can be found in The Lakes, including the Red squirrel, Otter, Roe Deer, Peregrine Falcone and Osprey.
Go off in search of wildlife on your own, or you can choose to book a wildlife activity or experience nearby. Some favourite providers of ours includes John Temple’s Cumbria, who are based between Crummock Water and Bassenthwaite, Nature’s Gems, Osprey Safari, Predator Experience and Beyonk.

However, if you’d prefer to head out from the park and enjoy a dinner elsewhere, you’re certainly spoiled for choice.
If you’re enjoying a romantic midweek getaway with your partner, then why not celebrate the occasion by enjoying something a little bit special? There are a few michelin star restaurants in the Lake District. The most prolific is L’Enclume in Cartmel. Simon Rogan’s flagship restaurant boasts 3 michelin stars, was voted as the Number One Restaurant in the UK by Good Food Guides from 2014-2017. Simon’s menu focuses on the seasonal changes in the Lake District.
Other notable restaurants include The Forest Side in Grasmere and The Cottage in the Wood in Whinlatter – both boast 1 michelin star and are situated in enviable positions with lovely views – ensuring a perfect backdrop of your romantic meal in The Lakes. Other notable michelin-stared restaurants include The Old Stamp House in Ambleside, Rogan & Co in Cartmel, HRiSHi in Bowness-on-Windermere and Allium at Askham Hall in Penrith.
There are also many lovely country pubs to visit in the area – many of which have beer gardens which are lovely to relax in the summer, and wood fires which are ideal for keeping warm and cosy in the winter.
